Psychoeducational Assessment

Psychoeducational assessment can help determine the causes of a child’s academic struggles and provide new perspectives on how to intervene. The process combines the results of specifically chosen tests, interviews, structured rating scales, and observations to produce explanations for children’s school problems. Interventions are proposed based on the perceived cause of the problem.  This information can be useful for your own understanding of your child’s learning strengths and weaknesses, as well as to support your child’s teacher in providing a better learning experience.

Some learning problems are more complicated to assess than others. I start the process by meeting with you to discuss your concerns and compiling background information about your child’s development and educational experience. This helps me choose the most appropriate assessment instruments. Next, I schedule one or more sessions to test your child one on one. Testing time may total between six and ten hours depending on the number and complexity of assessments needed. When completed, I provide a detailed report explaining the results (and diagnoses, if warranted), and schedule a one-hour appointment to go through the results and recommendations with you in detail. I can also present to your child’s teacher or IEP team, for an additional charge.

I can provide evidence of eligibility for special education services or DSM-V diagnoses.

I assess the following areas:

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Learning disabilities
  • Intellectual disability
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Other  childhood psychological and neurodevelomental disorders

All assessment fees are determined before the assessment begins.  The fees are determined by the number of areas of suspected disability and the complexity of the case presentation. I provide clients with an assessment fee following a complimentary initial consultation.

The assessment includes a 1-hour consultation with the presentation of the final report.  This includes an explanation of testing, results and recommendations for student success. Attendance at IEP meetings or consultation with teachers is billed at my regular billing rate.

I do not accept insurance but I can provide a superbill with applicable CPT codes for reimbursement. I do not guarantee reimbursement and encourage patients to contact their insurance before services are provided. I am happy to provide you with more information.
